Whitening your teeth under the supervision of your Dentist has been proven safe in clinical studies. In order to begin our take home whitening process molds of your teeth are taken to allow us to form custom trays. These custom trays are thin, comfortable, and fitted to your teeth. These trays allow the whitening material to be in constant contact with your teeth allowing for maximum whitening. Custom trays allow you to always whitening by only using fresh whitening gel.
The primary ingredient in opalescence is carbamide peroxide, which has been safely used. As you whiten your teeth the carbamide peroxide product is broken down to oxygen and water. The oxygen enters the enamel and whitens the enamel.
Natural whiteness usually occurs when the process is continued for 4-14 days. Studies have shown that rebound of shade can occur after 1 year, so we recommend that our patients do a touchup every 4-6 months for 1-2 nights depending on the amount of coffee, tea, red wine or any other factors that may cause stain.
